Crop Walk

This morning (after major protests from the kids) we got up early and went for a walk. We walked three miles with people from churchs all over Austin. We walked for hunger.

Every year Austin hosts a Crop Walk. People meet up at parks all over the city and, after collecting sponsors, they walk three miles (approximately how far many women and children around the world have to walk to collect water). Half of the money collected stays right here in Austin to help food banks in the city. The other half of the money will go to help families all over the world. The best part is that the money helps people to help themselves: giving them animals and seeds for their gardens, helping women start up small businesses like making clothes, digging wells and putting pumps in villages).

By the end we were tired and hungry, but we left feeling we had used our time well. We will definitely be doing this again next year.

How fun, I am sure there are things like this in Utah but I never hear about them.
