This year, July 2 officially became my birthday, unofficially. We wanted Dad to be with us since we leave on the 5th without him. So my mom sent all the kids on little missions to find what I wanted. Hallie especially loved this because she had been "spy Hallie" for a while.) Austin asked what my favorite foods were (breakfast and dinner mind you), while Colin asked about just food in general. Mom explained to Dad that this was a surprise, but when I asked if I could skip eating Sushi the night before, he must have forgotten. Daddy told me, "Who gets to pick breakfast tomorrow? And dinner?" Colin quickly spoke up to keep my attention. "I could make breakfast for you, 'cause I cooked oatmeal, which you don't like." Mom, Austin, and Colin took this as an opportunity to pinch and kick Dad while I was distracted. Now you would think I'd get the hints but I answered Dad's question with "You and Mom", still clueless.
The next morning I awoke to 6 smiling faces singing "Happy Birthday." "It's not my B-day yet!" I protested. Then Mom explained the surprise birthday. "The whole day is yours!" she concluded. They had done my pet care jobs with our neighbor's pets and let me sleep in. The breakfast was my favorite down to the last crumb: French toast with maple syrup in a glass, milk in my favorite cup, and mom even added a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Yummy! However did she know? There were scrambled eggs cooked with cheese and ham slices, plus two bacon strips.
We played in the toy room as the parents napped. Austin said she was crazy jealous of my gift. When we were all ready we opened my presents in the order following: Austin (lemonheads), Hallie (gum), parents (empty Nook Color box), parents (Nook Color case), parents (Nook, finally), Reagan (card and pictures). Presents were followed by watching Tangled and eating doughnuts for lunch.
Mom and I played with the Nook for a while. Then Dad and I headed to go clean the church building because it was our turn. (If you used the restroom, the bathrooms looked great when first cleaned.) At home we caught the neighbor's dog in our yard and brought him back.
Dinner was Mom's 5 cheese macaroni, only we used shells instead of macaroni. We washed dishes and Mom made a huge "Caitlyn's special" Tiger bar cookie for dessert, along with Blue Bell Peach and Homemade Vanilla and Pecan Pralines 'N Cream ice cream.
After prayers, we went to bed, but Austin and I finished the day with "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" and 2 more presents: rings from Aunt Corrie and a book from Aunt Joy!
