Janice Kapp Perry

How many of us get the chance to live a childhood dream? When I was 9 years old I was asked to sing in Stake Conference with a group of senior primary children. The song we were to sing was "Love Is Spoken Here." My family was going out of town so I wasn't able to participate. I was devastated (the fact that my close friends were able to sing didn't help). The song was so beautiful. I wanted so much to be able to sing it for others.

Today, over twenty years later, I was able to fulfill that desire. I sang "Love Is Spoken Here" with a beautiful group of women in the presence of Janice Kapp Perry herself. The Spirit radiated so strongly. I could barely make it through without my voice cracking. As I sang, I had a strong feeling that this opportunity was my own special gift from our Heavenly Father. It was a testament to me that everything happens in the Lord's time. I can't understand why it would matter to the Lord to make up for this lost singing opportunity all those years ago, but I felt very loved and special that He did.

It was an honor to then hear from Sister Perry. She is funny, charming, and spiritually gifted. She told us that she didn't begin writing music until her 40's! She gave me hope that there are many new and wonderful things ahead of me. How grateful I am to have a loving Father who knows me and knows my abilities and will be patient with me as I discover them for myself. I would love to go on for pages about all that I learned and the stories that she told, but it is honestly too late at night, so I will just say how grateful I am for Sister Perry's gifts and that she has shared them with us for many years.

It was a great meeting, for sure! I thoroughly enjoyed it also and was inspired by her wonderful example. What a privilege it was to be there. She is a real gem of a woman. That's wonderful that you fulfilled a dream! :-)
